En Plein Air!

It was early December, and the weather was perfect to launch a Replanting Tree Program, en plain air.

In the Department of West, on the border of the neighboring Nippes Department, one can find a vibrant school in a small country town called Sous-Rigole.  The school is located in Deuxième Plaine, on the outskirts of Petit-Goâve and is administered by its founders, Raymond & Gina Pierre-Louis.

The Institution Chrétienne de Sous-Rigole launched their first Replanting Program for the year. Refreshment and an invited guest speaker signaled that something grand was happening. During the launch, BAJUSTE Ralph Celestin, agricultural technician, captivated the attention of the school children from 1st - 5th grade. He delivered a thorough presentation on the importance of trees using sketches, images, & anecdotes. He focused on why trees are necessary for our environment.

One of the videos shows a group of 3rd graders energetically singing a new song:

“I am planting a tree so my country can move forward!”

As Ralph was wrapping up his presentation, he asked the children: What would happen without the presence of trees?  All in attendance can see the children competing to answer out loud, with their little index finger pointing straight up. One after the other, we hear: “You won’t have enough water to drink…. You won’t be able to make food…. You won’t be able to feel any fresh cool breeze….”

This is exactly the reaction that Ralph and the school’s administrators were hoping for.
